Queensryche Digital Noise Tour – McKees Rocks, PA
Queensryche took to the road once again, with the aptly titled Digital Noise tour. They are headlining in support of their latest effort, Digital Noise Alliance, and have brought along Marty Friedman and Trauma as support.
Starting the the show off with the first single off their newest album proved to be a smart choice. They got the attention of the crowd and quickly separated those that were there just for the oldie but goodies from the true fans. The nearly sold out crowd at the Roxian this evening proved to be the latter. The 3.5 hour drive we made to catch this show was worth it. The setlist this evening was extremely refreshing from the tried and true songs anyone who has seen Queensryche live over the past few years had grown to expect. We were treated to deeper cuts from the 16 album catalog the band has to pick from. Yes, they did also play the expected hits, Jet City Woman, Empire and Eyes of a Stranger. However, Queensryche chose to perform more than a handful of songs from the Todd LaTorre catalog. I, for one, was glad to see they dropped the Silent Lucidity from the setlist – even if it is just for now.
The band seems stronger than ever, both live and in writing albums. Guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone continue to bring that signature Queensryche sound. One can not ignore the solid rhythm section of drummer Casey Grillo, mostly hidden in the darkness, and bassist Eddie Jackson. It is hard to believe the band is nearing 40years of material and still play like they have another 40 years worth to share.
