Planet Zero World Tour came to Darien, NY

Shinedown – Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, Darien, NY

Shinedown, along with Jelly Roll and John Harvie, brought the Planet Zero World tour to Buffalo, NY on a perfect September evening. They are no strangers to the area and the crowd didn’t seem bothered that it was a Tuesday night. They showed up early and were sure to catch all three acts on the bill.

Pop-Punk rocker, John Harvie, was the opener and he had the energy of a headliner. The 22year old artist released his debut album, Told Ya, less than a month ago and already seems to have a big following.

Jelly Roll, who was sandwiched in between on the bill, is a multi genre artist. Just when you think you have him figured out the next song starts and it is completely different. Yet somehow he is able to seamlessly flow from country to rap to rock during his set. Shinedown guitarist, Zach Meyers, joined him on stage for a “rap off”. Jelly Roll had the crowd’s full attention through out his 45min direct support set.

By the time Shinedown took the stage the crowd was wild with anticipation. They preformed 18 songs spanning their career, of which less than a handful were from their latest release, Planet Zero. The crowd, varying in age, sang along to every song. Shinedown provided the crowd with large screens as their backdrop that played portions of the live performance as well as short clips in relation to the newest album. They did not disappoint when it came to pyrotechnics either. The only negative thing I can point out, if asked, would be the fact that the stage seemed pushed back almost too far, seemingly disconnecting the band from the crowd.

At one point singer Brent Smith, told the crowd to never give up on their dreams. Telling fans whatever they want out of life to go get it, basically. He is definitely a conductor of the masses, a showman in the fullest definition. They returned the earlier favor and asked Jelly Roll to join them for their cover of “Simple Man” .
