Buffalo got a different look at Helmet as the band stepped into the headline slot for the final night of a short run booked around their Strap It Down Tour dates with Down. Helmet’s Buffalo appearance at the Town Ballroom was the final stop of a short run of headline dates the band booked on days off from the Strap It Down Tour, where Helmet and Spirit In The Room have been opening for Down. The abbreviated run gave Page Hamilton and company a chance to move into the headlining spot and play a longer set than their supporting dates allowed. Spirit In The Room opened the evening with a dark mix of noise, punk, psychedelia and industrial atmosphere before Helmet took the stage with the precise, rhythm focused approach that has remained a defining part of the band’s sound for decades.

Spirit In The Room established a dark and moody atmosphere from the start, building their sound from distorted guitar, brooding vocals and layers of industrial texture. Their songs moved through hazy, unsettled passages before breaking into heavier sections, with the rhythm section providing a steady foundation beneath the shifting dynamics. The guitars often sounded rough and abrasive, while the vocals added a restrained sense of unease that carried through the set. What emerged was a heavy dose of hard driving, no frills post hardcore that had the Town Ballroom crowd engaged from the outset. Helmet’s music has always found its strength in its economy, and the longer headline set gave those details more room to stand out. Hamilton’s guitar work remained the focal point, supported by a rhythm section that kept everything tight and deliberate. By the end of the night, Helmet had offered a performance that was direct, focused and unmistakably their own.
