Wednesday13 Proves There’s No Such Thing as Monsters in Buffalo, NY

On a chilly Wednesday evening in downtown Buffalo, NY fans gathered, ready to welcome the Duke of Spook, Wednesday 13. As mentioned by Mr. Mutherfucker13 himself, the evening would be a celebration of “20 years of…well, me”. The tour not only marked the 20th anniversary of his debut album – Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying and the Dead, however also to help promote his upcoming release, the aptly titled – Mid Death Crisis.
Supporting Wednesday 13 for the show at Buffalo’s Rec Room was fellow goth-metal band Stitched Up Heart and the metal-core group Dead Rabbits.

Nearly 3 years to the date, Wednesday 13 once again brought his B-film horror show to Buffalo, NY. The crowd was in for an evening full of campy horror, shock rock served on a silver platter. The setlist not only included W13 songs but also some from his days in Murderdolls, as well as Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13. Notwithstanding the various origins, with Wednesday being the common denominator in all three bands, the songs blended together flawlessly.
Beginning the set with Look What the Bats Dragged In set the goth party vibe in motion. Without missing a beat the band slid into 197666, leaving the crowd to chant along with the massive hook of a chorus. The stage was plain, with just a black and red backdrop stating the band’s name across it, however the lights, in unison with the band members stage presence, were very eerie and reminiscent of a horror themed playground.
Guitar players Diego “Ashes” Ibarra and Jack Tankersley, bass player Troy Doebbler, and drummer Jason West add to the idyllic mix of goth / punk / glam / horror attitude brought to life by vocalist and band namesake, Wednesday 13. The insatiable crowd consumed every little crumb dished out. They were treated to brand new material such as When The Devil Commands, off the soon to be released album, as well as long buried favorites like Rambo.
The encore was saved for the Murderdolls covers Slit My Wrist and Dead In Hollywood, before which W13 made sure to pay respect to his friend and former band-mate, the late Joey Jordison. The rock legend gained notoriety as the iconic drummer in Slipknot. Crowd participation was not an option so much as a requirement during the last song of the evening, I Love To Say Fuck. It is the perfect anthem to end the night on. Hard to believe it was a mid-week show, as the vibe in the venue felt very much like a weekend show.
I look forward to the next Wednesday 13 show, and suggest you make it a point to go when they come around, you will not be disappointed.
