Nothing More Dispense Nothing Less Than An Exhilarating Performance In Buffalo, NY
Nothing More delivered a dynamic set on Monday evening for those in attendance at Riverworks in Buffalo, NY. Currently out in support of Carnal, their seventh studio release in the band’s twenty year history. Set It Off, Ashes To New, and Post Profit were brought out on this leg of the tour.
Founding member and lead vocalist, Jonny Hawkins captivated fans attention from the minute he and fellow bandmates, guitarist Mark Vollelunga, bassist Daniel Oliver and drummer Ben Anderson, took to the stage. They came out strong starting the show with House of Sand off Carnal, in fact the first 3 songs of the evening were all off the newest album.
Nothing More is known to be very high-octane and this show was no different. The 16 song set saw touring mate and opening band Post Profit singer, Matt Jackson, join the band for Don’t Stop, a song that features Jacoby Shaddix from the 2017 album The Stories We Tell Ourselves. The band is musically progressive and is often described as alternative metal but one thing is sure, they are nothing short of a powerhouse. deeply emotional lyrics create a transcendent experience for all in attendance. Hawkins, is the main attraction, often shirtless and always barefoot, however that does not take away from the energy added by Vollelunga and Oliver jumping, spinning and simply giving their all as they play their instruments. Anderson is responsible for the evenings heartbeat, and he is a beast, smashing on his drum kit. At one point, Johnny and drummer Anderson still shared an incredible drum solo during Ships in the Night.
The crowd was devouring every bit handfed to them, singing along to every song performed, hanging on every note played. Especially for a Monday night, the 4000 capacity venue was nearly jam packed with no concerns that tomorrow was a school or work day, just in it for the moment. Everyone was hot and sweaty, with sore throats and ringing ears from the raw intensity of Nothing More made for a night to remember. Sadly, the evening had to come to an end from one of the hardest working bands currently.
I would suggest not missing out on a Nothing More show when given the opportunity and I look forward to next time, as always.
