Kingdom Come – The Keepers of the Kingdom Come To Iron Works, Buffalo, NY

Kingdom Come – Iron Works, Buffalo, NY

Wednesday night marked only the second time Kingdom Come has performed in Buffalo, NY. The last time being in 1988, on the Monsters of Rock Festival. The band has gone through a line up change since then, as well. However, their passion to perform and make new music was very evident.

Kingdom Come – Iron Works, Buffalo, NY

Although they have had limited performance opportunities since the addition of drummer Matt Muckle and vocalist Ezekiel Kaplan, earlier this year, Kingdom Come delivered a spectacular 65 minute set. They showcased tracks from their first two albums, the self titled Kingdom Come and the follow up In Your Face as well as performed two brand new songs, Payback’s a Bitch and Shine, for the first time live. Another notable event for the evening was the absence of guitarist Danny Stag, whom had suffered an injury a few days prior. Kingdom Come consists of original members guitarist Rick Steier, bassist Johnny B. (JB) Frank and Stag along side the earlier mentioned Kaplan and Muckle.

Kaplan mentioned a few times he was the youngest person in the room and his performance of the classics as well as the two Led Zepplin covers made it hard to believe he had not even been born when Kingdom Come was all over Mtv. His vocal styling meshes so perfectly with the band and their style, without coming across as a cover band.

I cannot overlook the fact that the attendance fell shorter than I had expected, however the fans that did in fact turn out, were diehards. I think a huge part of the small crowd was due to a lack of promoting the event as well as it being mid week. I hope we get a few more dates out of them locally, maybe as an opening band. I think they deserve a larger audience and look forward to the new material.
