King Diamond Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920 Tour – Cleveland, Ohio

King Diamond – The Agora Theatre, Cleveland, Ohio

Iconic black-metal front man, King Diamond brought his Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920 tour to Cleveland’s historic Agora Theatre. Fans lined up down the street anticipating the evening’s entertainment. Those that turned out for the mid-week show knew it was not just going to be a metal concert they were in for, it was about to be an entire production, a performance in the purest sense. Thrash veterans Overkill and the metal power trio Night Demon offered support for the nearly 8 week tour.

King Diamond knows how to deliver an evening one will not soon forget, starting with an elaborate stage setup, complete with multi-level staircases, horror-themed props, a few costume changes, dancers, and an theatrical effects that exceed expectations.

Once the curtain dropped, Arrival kicked off the show, the crowd went wild. The average age of those in attendance were on older side, yet they did not let that stop them from engaging in crowd surfing and fist pumping. In fact, one attendee I spoke with said the only thing that has changed for him after all these years, is now he brings along lots of Tylenol instead of others items from his youth.

The band powered through classics like Sleepless Nights, The Invisible Guests, Eye of the Witch, and Welcome Home. Fans were also treated to two brand-new songs, Spider Lilly and Electro Therapy. Abigail, with it’s dark guitar riffs and eerie vibe, did not disappoint as it signified the end of the show.

King Diamond is one of those bands that if you have never seen live you should, and if you have, you should continue to whenever you get the chance. Even after all these years, vocalist Kim Petersen {whose stage name is King Diamond} continues to deliver an insane falsetto scream and powerful countertenor singing voice. If anyone claims they are not impressed, they must be lying.

Founding guitarist Andy LaRocque, joins King Dimond on tour as well as longtime guitarist Mike Wead, bassist Pontus Egberg, and drummer Matt Thompson. Myrkur, was asked to handle backing vocals and keyboards for the entire tour.
