Indio Downey Delivers Grunge Tinged Opener at Sold-Out Riviera Theatre

Opening for Geoff Tate’s Operation Mindcrime: Final Chapter tour, Indio Downey brought a 90s inspired sound to the sold out Riviera Theatre, delivering a concise, honest set that drew a warm response and left the audience wanting more.
Indio Downey opened the sold-out show at the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda with a stripped-down set that fit the mood of the night. The three piece band leaned into a sound rooted in 90s grunge and alternative rock, the kind that clearly shaped their writing and delivery. Songs like Cigarettes in Bed and Chipper set the tone, simple and raw but full of feeling. Cages and Back Against the Wall carried that same energy, driven more by emotion than polish.
Downey’s cover of Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box drew the biggest reaction, not because it was flashy but because it fit him naturally—his voice and phrasing made it sound like one of his own. Dume and Ocean Arms showed a softer side, while Glad I Came closed the set on a solid, understated note.

There wasn’t much showmanship or production, just songs and a clear sense of where they came from. Opening for Geoff Tate on the final Operation Mindcrime tour, Downey kept it honest and unforced, a reminder that good songwriting and a steady presence still hold up just fine on their own. Many in the crowd would have liked a longer set, and hopefully he and the band will return to the area soon to deliver more.
