Headstones Take Over the Buffalo Waterfront
A great Canadian invasion happened last thursday at Buffalo, NY newest outdoor venue, Outer Harbor Live at Terminal B over looking the waterfront. Headstones co-headlined the event with Canadian royalty, The Tea Party. The Trews opened the show and DJ Human Kabab was responsible for getting the crowd revved up between sets.
Hugh Dillon and fellow Headstones band members last played Buffalo, NY. in December of 2022. Fans had anxiously awaiting their return and what better place for a summer event than the brand new waterfront venue Terminal B. This time crowds lined up early for the Canadian invasion of DJ Human Kebab {one half of the duo USS}, The Trews, and co headliners Headstones and The Tea Party. We were sure not going to miss the opportunity to catch this event.
From the moment they hit the stage, singer Hugh Dillon, always holds your attention. Headstones always put on an ol’ school in your face {literally} rock show, and the crowd is there for it! Dillon religiously brings the show to the back of the crowd, making sure -no matter the venue- to include every attendee. He jumps the barrier quite often and performs in the crowd while bandmates, bassist Tim White, guitarist Trent Carr, drummer Jesse Labovitz, and keyboardist Steve Carr continue to play on stage, making sure to keep an eye on Dillon. One would think as a singer that constantly jumps into the crowd, Dillon would use a wireless microphone, but that is not the case.
Being that this show was a co-headline show, the band had a 70 minute setlist that included fan favorites such as When Something Stands For Nothing, Cemetery and Three Angels. Of course, they also played Tweeter and the Monkey Man, a cover of the Traveling Wilburys song that has since become their own. Surprisingly, Dillon was not quite as chatty as he has been at past shows, and seemed focused on the music. He joked around on stage with bandmates and a few times purposely paused with giant grin on his face, almost mannequin style, while the band jammed..he joked and yelled ‘its called patience, motherfucker’ after the longest pause of the evening.
They ended their set with the trademark Smile and Wave and a comment from Dillon “see you soon Buffalo, but next time at night”. The band had gone on just before dusk.
