Headstones bring the Flight Risk tour to Buffalo, NY
Canadian rockers, Headstones, played two sold out shows, back to back, at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY in support of their latest release, Flight Risk. This is the first show back to the area after playing Lewiston, NY summer of 2019. The were scheduled to play Lewiston again in 2020 but ended up having to postpone and ultimately cancel that tour due to scheduling conflicts and of course, the pandemic. Despite the delay, it was well worth it!!
Released in October of 2022, Flight Risk is the band’s tenth studio album and quite possibly one of their best yet. The 11 song collection sounds very much similar to early Headstones. Not one to disappoint live, Hugh Dillon is extremely interactive with the crowd and the two shows this weekend in Buffalo were to be no different. He jumped into the crowd and sang from the far back of the venue, sharing the mic with fans, trading high fives, etc. Dillon, known for his dislike for cellphones during concerts, stopped once in awhile for selfies with fans brave enough to show their cameras. He still made it known he would prefer you NOT be on your phone or even have your phone out.
Joined on stage by Trent Carr {guitar}, Tim White {bass}, Jesse Labovitz {drums} and Steve Carr {keyboards}, Dillon sang classics like ‘Tweeter and the Monkey Man’ and ‘When Something Stands for Nothing’. When it came to new songs ‘Headlight Holds a Deer’ and ‘Tangled‘ the crowd did not miss a beat and most sang right along with them.
Personally, and after discussing it with others in attendance for both evenings, I feel the second night was even better than the first, as if that was possible. What that means is, they are only getting better with age and hopefully not planning on slowing down anytime soon.
