Ace Frehley Energizes Rome, NY with 10,000 Volts
Out in support of his latest release 10,000 Volts, which dropped this past February, Ace Frehley and bandmates settled into the Rome Capitol Theatre in Rome NY.
Ace started the show with Shock Me, much to the crowd’s delight, and did not let up from there. His setlist was heavy on the Kiss covers – can they really be called covers if he was a founding member? Although 10,000 Volts is one of his best releases, he only played one song from it. As much as I enjoyed watching him and his crew perform songs such as Strange Ways and Parasite, I was hoping for more songs from his solo career.
All that being said, the nearly 73 year old guitarist is as entertaining as every and worth every penny. Frehley is joined by a solid group of musicians – guitarist Jeremy Asbrock, bassist Ryan Spencer Cook and drummer Scott Coogan, all of which helped out on vocals.
Ace brought out his signature smoking guitar for Cold Gin and was heavy handed on the guitar pick throwing into the electrified crowd. At one point in the evening, Frehley mentioned how he was appreciative of the crowd and as long as they keep showing up he will keep performing. Ace may not give a perfect performance, however it is a real show. He was honest when he said he could not remember if he sang first or if Asbrock did.
With Kiss retiring from touring Ace took it upon himself to play fan favorites such as Rock and Roll All Nite and Shout It Out Loud, to the surprise of many attendees. The evening was one big sing along, as there is not one person in attendance that did not know the words to all the songs on Frehley’s setlist.
Ace Frehley and band will be out on the road for a bit and will be back in the Buffalo, NY area in the fall. I suggest catching that show. Maybe with some luck he will have added in a few of his newer songs.
