Black Veil Brides came to Buffalo RiverWorks with loud guitars, a strong setlist and Andy Biersack in full sarcastic mode. The Vindicatour II stop moved through songs spanning the band’s catalog before taking an unexpected turn at the end of the night. Biersack closed “In the End” with a bubble gun, filling the stage with bubbles and giving the night one very unusual finale. Bubble Veil Brides has officially arrived.

Black Veil Brides opened their Vindicatour II stop at Buffalo RiverWorks with “Knives and Pens,” and the crowd was singing before Andy Biersack had made it very far across the stage. Fans shouted back the lyrics as Biersack moved from one side of the stage to the other, smiling at the audience and settling into the role he has made his own.

Biersack’s dry sense of humor was on display throughout the night. Known for his deadpan delivery, he spent plenty of time talking to the crowd and picking out individual fans. Several were dressed as Pokémon characters, giving Biersack another opportunity to playfully single people out from the stage. He seemed completely comfortable with the attention, moving easily between songs and conversations with the audience.

His vocals were just as varied, shifting from the heavier moments to the more melodic sections of songs like “Bleeders” and “Vindicate.” Behind him, guitarists Jake Pitts and Jinxx traded riffs and leads, giving the songs their familiar twin guitar sound. Bassist Lonny Eagleton and drummer Christian “CC” Coma kept the rhythm tight and steady, giving the guitars plenty of room without overpowering them.

Even inside a venue with a 3,500 person capacity, there was a sense of connection between the band and the audience. Biersack regularly acknowledged people in the crowd, while the rest of the band stayed focused on the music. It made the performance feel less like a production and more like a band playing for people who knew the songs well.

The setlist pulled from different points in the Black Veil Brides catalog. “Rebel Love Song” gave longtime fans one of the evening’s recognizable sing along moments, while “Woe and Pain,” famously associated with WWE WrestleMania, brought another familiar song into the set. “Revenger” pushed the heavier side of the band, fitting well inside the industrial surroundings of Buffalo RiverWorks. “Sweet Blasphemy” reached further back into the catalog and gave longtime fans another early era favorite.

The encore brought Lilith Czar onto the stage to join Biersack for “Cut.” Their voices worked well together, giving the song a different feel before the band moved into its final number.

Then came “In the End,” complete with a bubble gun.

The idea came from the band’s recent show in Austin, Texas, where a fan spent part of the performance blowing bubbles into the crowd. Biersack clearly enjoyed the unexpected addition, and the experience eventually inspired the name “Bubble Veil Brides.”

In Buffalo, Biersack carried a small bubble gun throughout “In the End,” sending bubbles across the stage as the song played. Instead of ending the night with confetti or a wall of pyrotechnics, Black Veil Brides chose something much simpler. A children’s toy, a familiar song and a stage full of bubbles brought the night to a playful close and showed another side of a band that clearly knows how to have fun with its own image.
