Machines -vs- Monsters Tour – Come For The Noise, Stay For The Blood and Maybe Bring A Poncho

The Machines vs Monsters tour is everything it promises to be: blood, adrenaline, spectacle, and some surprisingly emotional moments. On a humid Sunday night, Buffalo Riverworks became ground zero for industrial metal fury and theatrical mayhem as the Machines vs Monsters tour stormed into town. With a co-headlining bill featuring Static-X and GWAR, plus support from Dope and A Killer’s Confession, the night delivered an unrelenting mix of sound, spectacle, and pure chaos.

From the first opening riff to the final thunderous encore, the venue was packed—a sea of bodies clad in everything from casual band tees to full-on cosplay armor. Fans didn’t just show up; they showed out, with a collective energy that turned the warehouse-style venue into a madhouse of moshing, crowd surfing, and theatrical devotion.
No one was safe once GWAR hit the stage. Known for their outrageous costumes and blood-soaked theatrics, GWAR turned the venue into a war zone of fake gore, alien rituals, and absurdly hilarious stage antics. Fans near the front were drenched head-to-toe in red, a grotesque baptism they welcomed with open arms. It wasn’t just a show—it was an initiation, and everyone wore their stains like a badge of honor. It was metal meets performance art, where the line between audience and performer blurred in a tidal wave of chaos. True to form, the alien overlords-turned-metal gods unleashed a grotesque, hilarious, and wonderfully chaotic set complete with the “sacrifice” of public figures including The Machines vs Monsters tour is everything it promises to be: blood, adrenaline, spectacle, and some surprisingly emotional moments., and Taylor Swift.
This modern incarnation of GWAR remains just as messy, destructive, and gloriously outrageous as the original lineup formed in 1984 by the late, great Dave Brockie, better known as Oderus Urungus. With long-running members Mike Derks (Balsac the Jaws of Death), Casey Orr (Beefcake the Mighty), and Brad Roberts (Jizmak Da Gusha) leading the onslaught, GWAR continues to deliver a live experience that is part metal show, part shock theater, and completely unforgettable. Fans walked out soaked in gore, proudly wearing it like war paint—proof they survived the baptism.
Closing out the night with mechanical precision and emotional weight, Static-X brought a high-tech, high-impact performance that showcased how far they’ve come since relaunching in 2018. Now often referred to as Static-X 2.0, the band features original members Tony Campos (bass), Koichi Fukuda (lead guitar), and Ken Jay (drums), alongside the enigmatic and masked Xer0—widely believed, and widely accepted, to be Edsel Dope in disguise.
The performance was equal parts tribute and rebirth. With massive LED walls, strobing lights, and dystopian visuals, Static-X leaned into an immersive industrial aesthetic that elevated their high-energy sound. The emotional apex arrived during “Cold”, performed as a stirring tribute to Wayne Static, whose death in 2014 cast a long shadow over the band’s future. That future now looks brighter—and heavier—than anyone might’ve expected.
They closed the night with the explosive “Push It”, sending the crowd into one final, frantic frenzy. It was a cathartic end to a night where past, present, and future collided in spectacular fashion.
A Killer’s Confession set the tone early with a high-energy set that primed the crowd, while Dope brought their signature mix of industrial grit and nu-metal hooks, getting heads banging and fists pumping.
Opening the night with force, A Killer’s Confession wasted no time establishing the night’s tone. Fronted by former Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis and joined by ex-Mushroomhead keyboardist Richard ‘Stitch’ Thomas, the band delivered a blistering 40-minute set that showcased both finesse and fury.
The crowd roared during the performance of their latest single, “Hollow,” but it was their cover of the Mushroomhead anthem “Qwerty” that truly unleashed bedlam. The pit erupted. Fans knew every word. This wasn’t just nostalgia—it was a signal. Reavis has found his post-Mushroomhead stride, and if this momentum holds, A Killer’s Confession is on track to headline stages of this size sooner rather than later.
Dope took the stage with swagger and punch, injecting their signature mix of industrial aggression and rock showmanship into the evening. Led by the ever-charismatic Edsel Dope, the band’s set marked a special moment for longtime fans—Virus, the band’s longtime guitarist, made his return after several tour dates saw Static-X’s Koichi Fukuda filling in.
While the performance was tight and energetic, there was a playful undercurrent in the air—one of rock’s worst-kept secrets: Edsel Dope is widely believed to be Xer0, the masked frontman for Static-X. Whether coincidence or calculated, his performance felt measured, as though he was conserving just enough fuel for the headlining slot to come.
Still, Edsel didn’t hold back on personality. His banter with the crowd was sharp and self-aware, cracking jokes about the impending bloodbath that GWAR would bring and at one point, he even called out a boat drifting past the riverside venue—proof that metal shows at Buffalo RiverWorks come with their own surreal charm.

Despite the sonic and visual extremes, there was a palpable sense of unity among the crowd. Whether they were screaming along to “Push It” or getting hosed down by GWAR’s monster fluids, everyone was bound by the shared madness. This wasn’t just a concert—it was a community, raw and alive.
Machines vs Monsters isn’t just a tour. It’s an experience—a baptism by distortion, blood, and cybernetic fire. If you’re a fan of theatrical metal, industrial soundscapes, or just want to get weird with hundreds of like-minded maniacs, don’t miss it.
