Geoff Tate Delivers a Big Rock Show to Buffalo, NY
Geoff Tate always delivers – always – and this night was no different. A few band members may have been switched up, yet that did not stop Geoff Tate from delivering the Big Rock Show Hits as touted. Tate has always been a very solid powerful vocalist and performer, so I make sure to never miss a show when he comes to the area. A packed venue proved I was not the only one that feels that way.
Geoff Tate promised a Big Rock Show full of hits and that is exactly what he delivered. The show began with a powerful performance of Empire and did not let up the entire evening. Tate had the mid-week crowd’s full attention with every note he sang from his nearly 30 year marriage to Queensryche. He makes sure to change up his setlist so it does not become a regurgitated, stale show.
Tate’s band had a few personal changes since the last time they played Buffalo’s Town Ballroom in February of 2020. This performance showcased the skills of three guitarists – he even dared bring out a fourth for the encore – James Brown, Amaury Altmayer and Dario Parente make up his triple threat of fretwork. While bassist, Jack Ross and drummer, Danny Laverde did a magnificent job of holding down the rhythm section.
Tate has such a suave personality and he knows how to work the crowd with his charisma. He shared little insights into his personal life off the road in between belting out songs such as The Thin Line, Breaking the Silence and Screaming in Digital. He shared insights on how songs he wrote some 34years ago are now starting to become reality.
Of course he the crowd would not let him get away without playing the giant hit, Silent Lucidity. Leading into it he told a story about running into a fan while home for a short break and the fan telling him how a song got him through so much. Geoff proceeded to ask what song it was and the unnamed fan told him “Silent in Tennessee” to which Geoff laughed as the crowd erupted.
Highlights of the evening included his powerful performances of I Don’t Believe in Love, Another Rainy Night and Queen of the Reich, a song he has publicly said he was not really a fan of.
Although, he deserves more than 20 days off to spend at home, I look forward to seeing Geoff Tate and his band again.
