Niagara Falls goes up In Flames
Swedish metal band, In Flames, ripped through Niagara Falls, NY last Monday on one of the last nights of their North American fall tour. The Rapids Theatre became home to the band and the fans that attended that evening.
Singer Anders Friden got the evening off with a bang, belting out the new song, “The Great Deceiver” off their future release, Foregone. Along side Anders is Bjorn Gelotte & newly joined Chris Broderick {guitars}, Bryce Paul {bass}, and Tanner Wayne {drums}. Even though they started off with a brand new song, they quickly went into some classics from their 30+ year discography, like “Graveland” off the 1996 release Jester Race. All in all the setlist was outstanding; considering they have 13 released albums and one slated for release in 2023 to pick songs from. They covered 11 out of the 14 with this setlist. Later on in the evening, Friden apologized that he really wasn’t feeling well, but that he was still giving his all and had refused to cancel the show for fear of disappointing fans. He sounded great considering however he was a tad less active on stage when compared to previous times I had seen them, understandably.
In Flames is a band you really should make a point to catch if they come to your area. I sadly can’t say much for the crowd in attendance other than those that were there were diehard fans, that much was obvious. I just wish there was more of them that evening. I am not sure if it was due to the economy, not enough advertising, the venue or the fact that it was a Monday in Niagara Falls, but the gathering was a tad too light for what a band like In Flames deserves.
